Bend PD: Attempted burglary thwarted as homeowner holds suspect at gunpoint

  |

A Bend homeowner held a suspected burglar at gunpoint early Thursday morning until police arrived to make an arrest.

Lt. Juli McConkey said the victim called 911 just before 9 a.m. after hearing someone break out a kitchen window of his home on SE Roosevelt Ave.

The homeowner saw the person trying to get into the house through the window so he grabbed a gun.

When he returned, the suspect, 42-year-old Ryan Unverzagt, was back outside looking into the homeowner’s pickup truck and around the property.

McConkey said the homeowner then pointed his gun at Unverzagt until officers arrived on the scene.

Unverzagt was booked into the Deschutes County Jail on multiple charges: first-degree attempted burglary, carrying a concealed weapon and second-degree criminal mischief.
