Deschutes County Search and Rescue volunteers assisted an injured mountain biker with life threatening injuries on the Swampy Lakes Mountain Bike Trail, Thursday afternoon.
Rescue volunteers along with one deputy responded to a call at about 5 p.m.
One SAR volunteer was in the area and responded via his own mountain bike arriving within 30 minutes of the call.
This SAR volunteer began providing immediate medical aide to the 55-year-old Bend man while waiting for the remaining units to arrive.
After an initial medical evaluation, an air ambulance was requested to airlift the injured biker.
By 7:25 p.m., the patient had been treated and transported a short distance to the awaiting air ambulance.
The patient was then transferred to the care of Lifeflight.
The SAR volunteers then escorted the victim’s family down the trail, back to the snow park where remaining family waited.
