Bend man arrested in alleged Jackson County online sexual predator case

A Bend man was arrested Tuesday suspected of preying on children in Jackson County over the internet, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

JCSO Public Information Officer Mike Moran said detectives in cooperation with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations and the Southern Oregon High Tech Crime Task Force had been investigating the case since May 20th.

The suspect, 69-year-old Steven Lee Genereux, allegedly made internet contact with an underage child over several months, Moran said.

Genereux requested sexual photos from the child, engaged in lewd visual behavior online with the child and arranged to meet the child for sex, Moran said.

Just before 10 a.m. Tuesday, law enforcement served a search and arrest warrant on the suspect at his home in the 60000 block of Tumalo Circle in Bend.

Genereux was booked at the Deschutes County Jail on three counts of online sexual corruption of a child-second degree and seven counts of luring a minor.

All Charges are Class C Felony charges with total bail of $150,000.

Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Digital Forensic detectives also assisted with the search warrant.

Various electronic devices were seized during the search warrant. These devices will later be processed to look for further evidence of the crimes of online sexual corruption of a child and luring a minor.

This investigation is ongoing, and criminal charges in Deschutes County are possible. If you have any information on Mr. Genereux that you believe would be of value to this case, please contact Detective Slater at 541-550-4859.
