Bend man arrested for DUII after head-on crash near Tumalo

A 65-year-old Bend man was arrested Monday afternoon for drunk driving after causing a head-on crash north of Tumalo, according to Oregon State Police.

OSP said Anthony Peter Amadio was driving his Ford F250 west on Highway 20 near Couch Market Road about 3:30 p.m. when he crossed into the eastbound lanes and struck an SUV.

The driver of the SUV, a 53-year-old man from Salem, was seriously injured and needed to be pulled from his vehicle. He was taken by ambulance to St. Charles in Bend.

Amadio told OSP he had been drinking before the crash. He was charged with felony DUII, second-degree assault and reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person.

Highway 20 near Couch Market Road was closed for about two hours while the scene was cleaned up.
