Bend man arrested after eluding police, crashing into 2 cars

A Bend man was arrested Saturday after crashing into two cars while trying to escape from a traffic stop, according to police.

Lt. Bob Jones said the incident started around 5 p.m. when an officer tried to stop a car for a traffic violation at 6th and Olney.

The driver, later identified as 26-year-old Zachery John Douglas, failed to stop for the office and accelerated away from the scene, heading northbound on 6th at a high rate of speed. The officer did not pursue Douglas.

Douglas then crashed into a motorist at the intersection of 6th and Revere and continued north, crashing into a parked truck before coming to rest a block north of Revere.

He was injured in the crash and taken to St. Charles in Bend. The motorist struck by Douglas was treated at the scene and released, Jones said.

Douglas, who was wanted on outstanding warrants, faces several charges including reckless driving, first-degree criminal mischief, and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
