Bend lawmaker calls for emergency local roundtable on COVID-19 threat

Bend GOP Rep. Cheri Helt on Monday asked local elected officials, county health officials and local health professionals to gather Monday night for an immediate round table discussion about the local preparedness and current work being done to address the potential threat of the COVID-19 Coronavirus.

“It is important that we efficiently and effectively communicate with our community to tell our neighbors about the work that is being done to prevent a public health crisis,” Helt said. “I have asked our Deschutes County Commissioners, Deschutes County health officials, Bend City Council members and local health professionals to join me in a round table discussion regarding our preparedness for the COVID-19 Coronavirus.”

Helt’s office confirmed they have received several RSVPs for the meeting, which is set for 7 p.m. at the downtown Bend library.

Oregon health officials on Monday identified a third presumptive positive case of COVID-19 among state residents. The third case is an adult Oregon resident from Umatilla County who is hospitalized in Walla Walla, Wash.

Central Oregon Daily will have a reporter at the meeting and more on the discussion tonight at 11 p.m.
