‘Atmospheric river’ brings rain, snow flooding, landslides to PNW

SEATTLE (AP) — The Pacific Northwest is experiencing heavy rains, flooding, some landslides and road closures.

The mountains have seen heavy snow and will see possible avalanches on Tuesday and Wednesday as an atmospheric river arrived in Washington and Oregon.

The Snoqualmie River near Carnation, Washington, is expected to produce minor to moderate flooding by Wednesday.

Metro areas including Seattle, Tacoma and Olympia could experience street flooding due to intense downpours.

Seattle and Olympia had set new rainfall records for the day by 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a flood watch through Wednesday morning.

In Eastern Oregon, Interstate 84 was closed in Baker City and Pendleton because of truck crashes in wintry weather.
