An Arizona woman was killed in a four-car crash Monday morning on Highway 97 north of Chemult, according to Oregon State Police.

Troopers from the Bend and La Pine area responded to a four-vehicle crash around 11 a.m. near the HWY 97 and HWY 58 junction in Klamath County.

A 30-year-old California man driving a semi southbound started to brake for cars slowing in front of him, but the icy conditions caused the trailer to slide and cross over into the oncoming lane.

The trailer collided with a 2016 Mercedes SUV driven by 64-year-old David Goulding of Anthem, Ariz. The impact killed Goulding’s wife, 65-year-old Karen Goulding, OSP said.

David Goulding was taken by air ambulance to St. Charles in Bend where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi was treated for minor injuries at the scene, OSP said.

Two other vehicles were also involved in the crash, but no other injuries were reported.

The crash closed HWY 97 for hours.

OSP said the winter weather conditions and speed contributed to the crash.
