Albany woman killed in Highway 20 crash SE of Bend

An Albany woman was killed Wednesday on Highway 20 near Bend when the truck he was driving crashed into a semi, according to police.

Oregon State Police troopers and emergency personnel responded to the crash, about 35 miles southeast of Bend at 6:45 a.m. The investigation revealed a 2016 Toyota Tundra, driven by 35-year-old Esmeralda Martinez of Albany, was traveling east when for unknown reasons lost control and collided with a westbound semi truck, OSP said.

Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene and a male passenger, identified as 34-year-old Carlos Callejas-Martinez of Albany, was treated for non life-threatening injuries. 

The driver of the semi, a 29-year-old man from Las Vegas, was taken by air ambulance to St. Charles in Bend with serious injuries, according to OSP.

The investigation had the road closed until about 2 p.m.  OSP was assisted by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and ODOT.
