A 6-year-old Springfield girl injured Saturday in a sledding accident near Paulina Lake Lodge was helped to safety by Deschutes County Search and Rescue.
Asst. Search and Rescue Coordinator Dep. Shane Zook said the accident happened around 12:30 and the girl needed help getting to the Ten Mile Sno-Park because the lodge’s machines were having mechanical issues.
One Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office deputy and three SAR volunteers responded to help with snowmobiles and a tracked Polaris side by side ATV.
Volunteers reached the girl at 2:02 p.m.
SAR volunteers evaluated the girl’s injuries and then took her down to the sno-park, where they were met by an ambulance from the La Pine Fire Department; medics took her to St. Charles in Bend for treatment.
The Deschutes County Sherif’f’s Office Deputy responded back to the Paulina Lake Lodge with a tracked Polaris side by side ATV to take the rest of the family and friends in the group down from the lodge, so they could be reunited in Bend.
