Three Redmond schools Thursday morning were placed on a brief lockout after a man was seen in Sam Johnson park carrying a holstered weapon.
Kelly Johnson, communications director with the Redmond School District said Redmond High and the Redmond Early Learning Center were put on lockout at 9:07 a.m. RELC was released from the lockout 30 minutes later while Redmond High was released from the lockout just before 10 a.m.
The Redmond Proficiency Academy was also placed on lockout during the incident.
Here’s the letter sent to families of students sent to Redmond High and RELC students:
Good morning families,
We are emailing you to let you know that our school went into lockout this morning.Redmond Police Department received a report of a possible unsafe individual in the Sam Johnson Park area and asked us to lockout. A lockout occurs when a danger exists outside of our school. During a lockout, classes continue as usual and all exterior doors are locked. No parents or visitors are allowed in or out of the building during a lockout.
We returned to normal school operations after Redmond Police Department informed us that it was safe to do so. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to keep all students and staff members safe.
Redmond Police searched for the man after the report but did not find him.
