2 injured after gun accidentally goes off at Madras Truck Stop

  |

Two people were injured Sunday morning at a Madras Truck Stop when a gun accidentally went off, according to police.

Madras Police Sgt. Steve Webb said the incident happened around 9 a.m. when a group of friends stopped at the truck stop on Highway 97 for breakfast.

A 19-year-old man had an unsecured gun in his sweatshirt pocket and it went off at the table, Webb said.

The round injured the man’s hand and leg and the lower leg of a 19-year-old woman sitting next to him.

Webb said the man left the scene and went to the hospital before officers arrived.

The woman stayed on the scene and was later taken to the hospital.

Both had non-life-threatening injuries.

Even though it was an unintentional discharge of a weapon, the incident is being investigated and the results of the investigation will be forwarded to the Jefferson County District’s Attorney’s Office.
