One person died and two people were injured Tuesday morning in a head-on crash in Redmond.

Redmond Police say 79-year-old Archie Carrol of Redmond was driving a black 2000 Toyota Tundra north on NW 6th St., just north of NW Oak Tree Lane when he crossed the road and collided with a blue 2004 Ford F150 heading south on NW 6th St.

Carrol died at the scene of the accident, said Lt. Jesse Petersen.

Redmond Fire was able to remove the driver of the 2004 Ford, 38-year-old Mario Ortiz Lopez of Prineville, who was flown by Life Flight to St. Charles in Bend with serious injuries.

Lopez’s passenger, 41-year-old Prineville resident Rodolfo Ortiz Lopez, was taken by ambulance to St. Charles in Bend for evaluation.

Redmond Fire Battalion Chief Garrick Terry said a medic unit returning from a call came upon the crash moments after it happened around 8:15.

The Bend Police Department conducted a reconstruction of the accident scene and NW 6th St., between NW Oak Tree Ln and NW Quince Ave., was closed for about six hours.
